Irix 6.2 Applications, August 1996 ------------------------------- This is the companion CD for IRIX 6.2. This CD updates and replaces earlier versions of IRIX 6.2 Applications May 1996 and the IRIX 6.2 CD 2 of 2. In particular, this CD contains updates to Netscape Navigator, Impressario, and various patches. Note: Packaged with your software is a separate sheet that contains the Software License Agreement. This software is provided to you solely under the terms and conditions of the Software License Agreement. Please take a few moments to review the Agreement. Installation information ------------------------ You should install the OS from the base IRIX 6.2 CD before installing any of products on this CD. If you purchased an Indy machine after May 1996, it is likely that much of this software has been pre-installed on your system, and will be listed as 'same version' when you view the products in Software Manager. (Other Silicon Graphics systems such as Indigo2, POWER Indigo2 and Indigo2 IMPACT do not have the software pre-installed. For a full list of the software on your system, use Software Manager and click on the "Manage Installed Software" button.) We suggest that you finish reviewing this README before making your selections in inst. If you should ever need to refer back to this README, simply re-insert the CD and double-click on the CD icon, or view the file /CDROM/dist/inst.README. You may choose to read the release notes for products before installing them. Netscape Navigator, Impressario (Base) and the patches all have release notes available. To view the release notes for products, open a winterm and type cd /CDROM ./CDgrelnotes (or ./CDrelnotes for a non-graphical display) Notes about the products ------------------------ 1. The version of License Tools 2.1.1 on this CD is newer than the version on the IRIX 6.2 first CD. A bug in the old 2.1 version can cause users to lose NetLS nodelocked licenses from the file /var/netls/nodelock. This scenario is especially common for users who have received licenses within the past year, even if the user did not use License Manager to install the new license. Silicon Graphics strongly recommends that all customers upgrade to License Tools 2.1.1 from this CD to avoid this problem. 2. The version of Netscape Navigator 2.02S on this CD is newer than the version on the IRIX 6.2 second CD or the IRIX 6.2 Applications May 1996 CD. This 2.02S version contains important bug fixes including changes related to Java scripts, gopher URLs, security bug fixes, better localization support, and bug fixes for the Japanese version. 3. Silicon Graphics now supports NetscapeMail as the default mail program. NetscapeMail is built-in to the Navigator. Information about it is available from the What's New pages, and in the icon catalog. MediaMail is no longer bundled with SGI machines, nor is it on this CD. However, MediaMail Pro is available on this CD if you prefer. You will need to purchase a license for MediaMail Pro.
