APD Release 2.9.0.0 A Personality Daemon (PD) is a device driver extension to the Tape Support (TS) system for a particular device or class of devices. The Asynchronous Personality Daemon (APD) products provide device support for new tape devices independently of the normal IRIX/Linux release processes. Asynchronous Personality Daemon (APD) 2.9 is supported on any IRIX/Linux system with TS(7) support, where TS stands for Tape Stream Driver. APD 2.9 will continue to support the tape drives supported by APD 2.8 (see the SUPPORTED PRODUCTS section below). In addition, this release adds support for the following new tape drive(s): None to date. This distribution contains the following files: 1. ts3590e This personality daemon is used to process IBM 3590B, 3590E, 3590H and 3592J device requests. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux systems. 2. ts9840b This personality daemon is used to process StorageTek 9840, T9940A, T9840B, T9940B and T9840C device requests. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux systems. 3. tsait This personality daemon is used to process requests for Sony AIT-1, AIT-2, AIT-3 and SAIT-1 devices. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux systems. 4. tsdlt This personality daemon is used to process requests for the DLT2000, DLT4000, DLT7000, DLT8000, SuperDLT1 and SDLT320 devices. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux on Linux systems. 5. tsdtf This personality daemon is used to process requests for the Sony DTF-1 (GY-1020) and DTF-2 (GY-8240) devices. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux systems. 6. tslto This personality daemon is used to process requests for Certance (formerly Seagate), IBM and HP LTO (Ultrium) devices. This binary is installed in /usr/etc/ts on IRIX systems and /usr/lib/ts on Linux systems. 7. ts.config This config file includes definitions for each supported device type and specifies which personality daemon will be used (1-5 above). This config file is installed as /etc/config/ts.config.N on IRIX systems and /etc/ts/ts.config on Linux systems. 8. scsi IRIX only: This file is installed as /var/sysgen/master.d/scsi.N on IRIX systems. You need to integrate the changes from the .N files into the standard versions of the files (without the .N suffixes). Be sure to keep the .N files on the system as you will need to re-integrate the APD changes following an IRIX upgrade. After performing the integration, use the autoconfig command to build a new kernel, make sure ts is enabled (chkconfig -f ts on) and reboot the system. For more info refer to the ts(7) man page. The mt(1) and hinv(1M) commands will display a type of 'unknown' for all APD devices until the system has been successfully configured and rebooted. APD 2.9 is supported on IRIX 6.5.22 or later. LINUX NOTES: ============ APD 2.9 requires that the ts-driver and ts-cmd packages are installed prior to the APD installation. The APD personality daemons get started by the TS tape driver and can NOT be used without it. The ts-driver package is kernel-specific, while the ts-cmd package is not. For that reason, only the ts-cmd package is distributed with the APD 2.9 CD. APD 2.9 is supported on Linux systems containing SGI ProPack 3.0 or SGI ProPack 4.0 (with any patches and/or service packs applied). BUGS FIXED in this release: (SGI internal bug report numbers =========================== have been included for internal tracking purposes only) None to date. ** IMPORTANT NOTE TO INSTALLER ** ================================= TS WILL BE SHUT DOWN !!! To prevent overwriting active binaries, the APD installation process will SHUT DOWN THE TS TAPE DRIVER before installing the new APD binaries. This will terminate ALL active processes on ALL tape drives managed by TS. If this behavior is not desired, you may choose to quit the installation process at this time.
